Description
The zooids are arranged in a star-shaped system arround a commonly used cloacal opening. Usually there are 3 to 12 zooids in one system. Due to colour differences the individual zooids can distinguished clearly.

Size
A single star-shaped system can have a diameter of 5 mm. Colonies can reach a diameter of about 50 mm.

Colour
The most common colour is purple, but also green, blue, yellow, brown an light grey forms can occur.

Habitat
Usually found in shallow coastal waters, attached to large sea weeds, wood or other hard substrate, sometimes on other ascidiens.

Distribution
Entire north Atlantic ocean.
