Description
Formerly known as Tubularia larynx.
The stalk of organ pipe hydroid is branched and together with the flower-like
hydroids it gives the colony a bushy appearance. The stalks have grow rings. The
polyps are smaller then T. indivisa but also have a double ring of tentacles.
Many species of nudibranchs feed on this polyp. Also Copepoda can be found in
the polyp or on the stalk, in search of protection.
Size
Height up to 45 mm.
Colour
The polyps are pink and the stalks are very pale to white, where as the stalk of
T. indivisa is yellow to orange.
Habitat
This hydroid
likes a strong current and sometimes can be found in large numbers on hard
substrata.
Distribution
North Atlantic ocean, including Mediterranean sea.
