Description
The white spots on the underside of the wings are clearly visible. The large spot on the lower wing is shaped like a comma. Because of these white spots it can easily distinguish him from the great skipper. In some areas it can fly in two generations per year. Hibernation occurs as egg or as very young caterpillar, depending on the climate. In the warmer climates, hibernation even takes place as almost grown caterpillar. The top is orange brown with a light to white spotting pattern. Males have a dark sex-brand on top of the upper wing. The bottom is a yellowish green with white spots. The caterpillar is greenish gray to olive brown.
