Description
The seahorse is a permanent resident of the house reef at Mihuric in Selce and can be found throughout the year. The animal has a preference for sandy bottoms and there is often found with its tail curled arround seagrass, seaweed or a fan worm. The seahorse feeds on shrimps and other small crustaceans but also with young fish. Males have parental care. The eggs are put in a pouch, at the bottom of the male abdomen by the female . Here they are fertilized. The male carries the offspring with him until they are completely independent.

Size
Can be up to about 16 cm.

Colour
The body can vary in color, brownish, yellowish or dark, covered with small white specles.

Habitat
Sandy bottoms with grass and/or algae, from shallow to about 20 meters deep.

Distribution
Eastern Atlantic from the British Isles to Morocco and the entire Mediterranean.
