Description
The plumose anemone is very recognizable by its large number of short thin tentacles and smooth column. The oral disk is big and wrinkled, juvenile specimens are smooth. When disturbed, they retract their tentacles and part of the column until only an unrecognizable heap is left.

Size
In water with a strong current they can catch a lot of food and will grow up to 250 mm height. The tentacles then have a diameter of 150 mm. In less current they will stay much smaller.

Colour
The Plumose anemone are light-pink, brown, beige or almost white. The tentacles are usually lighter then the column. Sometimes you can find animals with a light column and darker tentacles.

Habitat
These animals live on hard substrate like oysters and rocks. This is not always visible because that can be hidden by sand or mud. They animals favours a current and can sometimes be found in abundance to a depth of 35 m.

Distribution
Northeast Atlantic and Eastern Pacific.
