Description
The lemon sole has an oval body and smooth slimy skin. The eyes are on the right side of the body and the head is small. The mouth almost reaches the lower eye and has thick lips. The side line makes a slight curve above the pectoral fin. It feeds on worms and other bottom dwelling creatures. Spawning is from April until September, when the eggs and sperm are released in the water.

Size
Maximum length 500 mm.

Colour
Reddish brown with irregular patches. The top side is covered with small yellow-green spots. It has the ability to adept it's colour to the invironment.

Habitat
Juveniles live in coastal waters on hard bottoms. Adults move to deeper waters up to 250 metres.

Distribution
North eastern Atlantic from Iceland to the Bay of Biscay.
