Description
This worm has a beautiful crown of tentacles. They catch their food (plankton) from the water with these tentacles. The smooth flexible tube protrudes at least 100 mm from the bottom and has a diameter of about 10 mm. At the slightest vibration, the tentacles are retrackted. They like currents and when the water movements stops, the tentacles are often retrackted. Not very tolerant to low temperatures.

Size
Adults can grow up to a height of 300 mm.

Colour
The tube is brown to dark grey, the tentacles are often white with reddish brown bands. The can also have one uniform colour.

Habitat
Sublitoral.

Distribution
Entire east Atlantic including the Mediterranean sea.
