Description
The elegant anemone has a column with small warts irregularly placed, mainly in the upper part. The oral disc is wide with about 200 tentacles. The animal reproduces asexually by detaching parts of the pedal disc. That is why groups of the same variety are found close together. It occurs in five different colour morphs, of which miniata is the most common in Zeeland and rosea in the Adriatic according to our observations.

Size
The pedal disc is 40 mm and the oral disc up to 45 mm. The column is 55 mm high and the tentacles reach a length of 30 mm.

Colour
Var. aurantiaca: The is the rarest colour variety. The disk is greyish and the tentacles dull orange.
Var. miniata: The column is orange-brown to light brown with pale warts. The disk is brownish and tentacles are banded.
Var. nivea: The tentacles and disk are white. The column is very pale but the warts can still be seen clearly.
Var. rosea: Bright pink tentacles and lighter disk.
Var. venusta: The disk is bright orange with white tentacles.
