Description
Small snake-locks anemone has a slender smooth column and long thin tentacles with
longitudinal white line. These tentacles can be longer than the column. The large
mouth is very typical because of the grooved lips. These have one tentacle that
is longer than the other ones and is used to keep competitors on a save distance.
Size
The column reaches a maximum height of 100 mm, with a diameter of 25 mm. The oral
disc is wider than the column and the tentacles can get up to 200 mm long.
Colour
The smooth column is beige to brownish, with longitudinal lines. The oral disc is
beige-brownish. The tentacles are almost transparent with thin white longitudinal
line.
Habitat
This animal is often partly buried in sand or mud, but the pedal disc is attached
to hard substrate. They do not like strong currents.
Distribution
North eastern Atlantic from Norway to Portugal and the Mediterranean.
