Description
This vase shape sponge has a terminal excurrent opening, surrounded by little calcareous spicules. The ciliated sponge has a fluffy looking mantle. They are rather small and are very inconspicuous.

Size
They can grow up to 50 mm, but usually they are much smaller.

Colour
White to beige, often covered with debris.

Habitat
At a depth of a few metres on stones and shells. Can also be found between weeds.

Distribution
North Atlantic from the Arctic till the Mediterranean.
