Description
He is mostly found in roadsides, grasslands and woodland edges. The striking orange wingtips on the forewings are absent in females. Males and females (photo 2) have a marbled pattern on the underside of the hind wing. The wings are white with narrow black tips on the forewings. Half of the males forewing orange colored.

Size
To 40-50 mm wingspan.

Habitat
Hiberates as pupa in stems of plants.

Foodplants
The food for caterpillar consists mainly of plants belonging to the Cruciferae (crucifers).

Flight season
From March to July, in one brood.

Distribution
Throughout Europe and Asia to Japan.
