Description
This comb jelly has 8 vertical ribs provided with comb plates. The animal can swim by coordinated movements of these comb plates. Beroe has a long body that is somewhat flattened on the bottom side and lacks the tentacles that Pleurobrachia pileus has. The mouth at the flattened end of the body and can open so wide that P. pileus can be swallowed. P. pileus is their main prey.

Size
Can grow up to 100 mm but in the Nederlands usually smaller (30 mm).

Colour
Transparent.

Habitat
Swims just below the water surface, like its prey.

Distribution
North Atlantic ocean.
