Description
The sea gooseberry has an almost spherical body, a small opening on the bottom, is used as a mouth. It has two long tentacles with vibrating side hairs, used to catch plankton out of the water. On its body there are 8 rows of comb plates, that provide to possibility to swim in a coordinated way. Sea gooseberries are hermaphroditic. At the end of the summer they release sperm and eggs, in order to reproduce.

Size
Up to 30 mm long and the tentacles up to 150 mm long.

Colour

Transparent but the comb plates act as a prism and will split the light of your torch into beautiful rainbow colours.

Habitat
They usually swim just below the water surface.

Distribution
Atlantic ocean, Mediterranean, Black sea and Indian ocean.
