Description
They belong to the cod-family and also have a barbel on the chin which is typical for most species of this family. The high copper coloured back is striking and there is a dark spot at the base of the pectoral fin. Spawning takes place in the spring, at a depth of around 60 meters, after which the eggs are being released into the water and rise to the surface. After about 10 days, the eggs hatch. Bibs feed on smaller fish and crustaceans and hunt mostly at night.

Size
Grows up to 40 cm in length.

Colour
The dorsal side has a coppery colour on the ventral side this is overflowing in a bright white color. There are dark bands across the back that are clearly visible among juveniles.

Habitat
Swims in small schools arround ship wrecks and drop offs.

Distribution
North eastern Atlantic from Norway to Morocco and the western Mediterranean.
